linhardt no longer selling kimberley-process diamonds
As a personal response to the recent developments regarding the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme – the main certification scheme we have that keeps blood diamonds out of the hands of the public – I made the decision to no longer sell KP-Certified diamonds. These diamonds are often marketed as “Conflict-Free” however I lost faith in this scheme due to the new approval of unrestricted Marange exports (see other posts in this blog on “responsible Sourcing” for further explanation.)
I urge you all to do proper research when you see a diamond marketed as “Conflict-Free” as I believe the KPCS has seized to be governed by its core principles. It endangers the reputation of the diamond industry (an already-tainted industry) since it has failed in ensuring the integrity of of the diamond value chain. I will continue to sell PROPER Conflict-Free diamonds and urge you all to ask me questions regarding what this exactly means and what my sources are, which are all third-party verified. This decision to not sell KP-certified good makes my job as a jeweler more difficult, however it is a challenge I welcome! Bring it on.
