custom engagement, wedding rings and more

Linhardt’s specialty is designing and making custom engagement rings from concept to completion. All designs are fashioned from responsibly-sourced precious metals, recycled metals and responsibly-sourced gemstones. From the delicate luxury of fine engagement and wedding rings to the architectural boldness of bespoke fashion jewelry, Linhardt creates sophisticated designs of distinctive artistry.

  1. Personalize rings from our existing portfolio of wedding & engagement rings and be guided through the process: Our best-sellers reproduced in a collection, which gives flexibility in metal and gemstone.  The process is streamlined  with steps that must be approved along the way – and the guidance is educational.

  2. 2. Work directly with the designer to create a bespoke piece of jewelry from scratch: Antique-style, contemporary, deco, you name it, the portfolio proves versatility is our specialty; along with supply-chain transparency, innovative design, and exceptional craftsmanship. Our reviews prove that our community agrees.

linhardt x nicholas k: ny fashion week

New York-based artisanal jewelry designer Lisa Linhardt of Linhardt Design teamed up with luxury sportswear brand Nicholas K for its Spring 2017 collection. The collaboration highlights the eco-minded nature and dynamic design of both companies and features 55 total pieces, all of which were locally manufactured.

For the Spring 2017 collaboration, Linhardt’s bold sculptural jewelry was inspired by “repurposing,” a concept she envisioned with her former professor Rob Butler years ago. The practice emerged organically while the two were purchasing metals from silver scrappers to melt down. Since the vintage pieces, like vessels and tableware, were already beautifully crafted, Linhardt instead began cutting them up to create her jewelry. The Spring 2017 collection was inspired by these hand-smithed sugar bowls and water vessels that were shaped into freshly designed cuffs while maintaining the integrity of the original artwork. The accessories were then recreated in exaggerated forms, by the lost-wax casting process. The pieces were recreated with intensive hand-smithing used by past generations.

Linhardt’s recycled metal jewelry “imitates the contours of the desert,” the backdrop and main source of inspiration for the Nicholas K Spring 2017 collection. Nicholas K’s recent designs pay homage to the Bedouin culture that, like Linhardt’s repurposing model, “illuminates a life of simplicity and grueling efficiency.”

We are all still swooning over Nicki Minaj’s shoot for Complex Magazine, when she rocked our entire Tempest jewelry series like no other. Ms. Minaj represented Jamaica Queens like the true Queen she is – all while modeling jewelry made by a fellow Jamaica girl herself!

Check out this great behind-the-scenes video to see how our Tempest ring should be worn… the woman is fierce!

Our Tempest Ring has continued to receive incredible press throughout the entire year, and so we close 2015 with our latest news which is quite possibly the best of all… We are honored to announce the Linhardt Tempest as a recent winner of the prestigious 2016 AGTA Spectrum Awards. In addition, the ring was also granted First Place in the Evening Wear category in the 2016 GemDiva Awards, which is organized by The Womens Jewelry Association. Thank you to AGTA, the WJA, to all the judges for these incredible honors! Much appreciation to the National Jeweler for their highlight,.. Thank you to Jennifer Heebner, Myriam Gumuchian for her kudos, to Naomi Sarna who convinced me to submit and continues to be an inspiration! Thank you to JCK (How could we not be grateful to be named among the Top 5 Most Badass Rings at the Spectrum Awards!?!?)

On that fantastic high note, we will close out the year with highlights of the wonderful exposure this ring has achieved. We are so very grateful and toast to this fabulous journey! Cheers to you and your loved ones – here is to a spectacular 2016!

latest custom jewelry project: janessa and arthur in napa

I feel as if I have known Janessa for years – and realized that in fact, that is the case. She was a complete stranger to me when she walked into my East Village gallery back in maybe 2010-? and commissioned me for an engagement ring with her partner, Arthur. Janessa gave me so much freedom with the ring, and even accepted the first sketches with absolutely no changes. It was a designer’s dream! From there a great friendship grew, and it has been my pleasure to know this lovely couple through the years. Thank you, Janessa and Arthur, for allowing me to make bespoke pieces of jewelry to commemorate such a special connection and occasion. Congratulations to you both!

linhardt tempest series featured in vogue italia july issue

We love you, Vogue Italia! And we love you, Craig McDean! Thrilled to have our sculptural Tempest Series featured in the July Issue of Vogue Italia in the fashion shoot entitled “graphic & graphic” – modeled by Ronja Furrer, Ine Neefs, Josephine Le Tutour, Vanessa Moody and Josephine Van Delden. The Fashionography said it well: “A-lined dresses, color blocked coats and playful skirts that feel like a modern day update on the 60’s key prints are gracing the shapes of the spread’s newcomers. Hair stylist Orlando Pita and make-up artist Diane Kendal has fulfilled the minimalistic aesthetic with elegant slicked back hair along with big eyes and pale pouts. McDean’s choice of shooting Templer’s collection of heavily printed pieces in a graphic inspired environment, only enhanced his original vision, where the shape and its prints is all that matters.” Thank you, Vogue Italia, for pairing Linhardt jewelry in this gorgeous shoot!

spiralis haitian art exhibit at linhardt

On Friday May 30, Linhardt Design opened its doors to host a special evening that showcased Haitian art and artists. Linhardt teamed up with Dr. Gail Granowitz, who has done fabulous work by giving free medical help to communities in developing nations – which lead her to start a side venture that aids Haitian artists and their communities. The initiative is called Spiralis Ventures, which is “…founded on the deeply-held certainty that although there is misery and suffering in the world, there is also joy hope and beauty; that the opposite of war poverty and desperation is not peace and contentment but instead, creation productivity and power.”

Linhardt Design was proud to host a fabulous exhibit of paintings, ceremonial beaded flags, and sculptural relief which was served up with fabulous rum punch made lovingly by Jean Danielle, who flew in from Haiti. The night was filled with artists and friends from all over the world. Thank you to all who came out to show their support!

trunk show series: housewares by stephane hubert design

In April of 2008 when we were first setting up our new retail location in the East Village, a wonderful couple named Jaime and Stephane passed by and caught us in the middle of construction in our new space, which was fashioned with reclaimed wood. It was then that we learned Stephane is a maker, and works in all reclaimed materials. Eventually I wound up making Jaime’s engagement out of a repurposed family heirloom diamond paired with recycled gold – which lead to making their wedding rings, also with repurposed metals. During this time a wonderful friendship blossomed, and now they are both some of my favorite people in this world – because of their talent, immense love for one another, and incredibly sweet souls!

Since 2008, Stephane has founded his own company, Stephane Hubert Design, which includes a line of housewares made from repurposed materials, and also takes on custom commissioned work for special projects. He has created some gorgeous works for myself and for many people I know – everyone has been thrilled and in awe at his talent and eye for craftsmanship. This Saturday, April 19th from 12-7pm until Sunday April 27 we are featuring some wares from his line during an exclusive trunk show, with all items on sale, made locally right here in NYC, all one-of-a-kind!

While you are at Linhardt Design you can also see the gorgeous jewelry cases Stephane made when fashioning our new retail space. Hope to see you there this week! Linhardt Design, 211 Mott Street (btwn Prince and Spring) 917-338-7822 for more information. Photos by Christine Han.
