No I didn't design Molly Ringwald's jewelry for Oscar night 2010 but I admire whomever did! Alright so it was uber-ambitious of me to think that I would make it to a TV in time to see the Oscars.. as always wound up being in the studio until way too late. Being that I haven't owned a television in almost 15 years, it was way too much trouble to impose myself on unsuspecting friends at 11pm just to catch a glimpse of the jewelry. So I searched the net this am for comparable emerald-earrings a-la-Angelina Jolie... and nothing! Same boring diamond bracelets (yawn!) until I saw Molly Ringwald's gorgeous artful jewelry! Wow. Really Wow! No jewelry credits were to be found on line, and the overall consensus was "I love the dress but the jewelry has go to go!" Come on! This was testament to the fact that you don't have to wear Cartier to a red carpet event in order to look classy. After searching and searching, I saw that my modern art hero Alexander Calder designed the jewelry... No wonder! I suppose if it was an unknown name Ms. Ringwald would have been further crucified, but really people... think outside of the diamond bracelet box! Thumbs up to my 80s lipstick princess. You've still got it sister!

Sometimes the way it goes down is you never know where your jewelry is going to pop up. I know Alicia Keys had some of the work from my signature "Loop" collection but didn't know it was going to be used to to promote her new album The Element of Freedom. Today I received a phone call from my friend Jennifer who saw these posters at Sony and recognized my ring. Apparently this image is also used on the cover and main story of Billboard magazine this week. Fun! Looking forward to seeing where else this pops up!

 
Amber Rose will be sporting the Linhardt Pixel ring in crystal quartz with a sterling silver patch of green moss growing out the side in an upcoming photo shoot styled by Kanye West for Elle Magazine (actually styled by Wuori/Barrett but I guess the pieces were "narrowed down" by Kanye). Linhardt (literally) gets on the map for the October 2009 issue of Japanese Harper's Bazaar - featuring a beautiful section dedicated specifically to New York City's best shopping boutiques. Thank you so much for including us, your magazine is gorgeous and I am in love with the Japanese aesthetic! Pick the magazine up on newsstands worldwide in early October.

 

Nary Manivong announced that his Spring/Summer 2010 presentation featuring Linhardt jewelry would be broadcasted live from NYC on September 10th during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. The show will feature behind-the-scene prep, interviews with guests and of course the presentation itself. The live broadcast will last two hours from 4-6pm at this link.

The music video is finally out! Alicia Keys paired up with Spanish songwriter and 14-time Latin Grammy award-winner Alejandro Sanz on a single called "Looking for Paradise. Alicia Keys will be featuring Linhardt original jewelry in her new music video which was shot at the end of this past summer right here in NYC. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with my favorite photographer in the whole world Rinze VanBrug on the new photo series, which features Linhardt customers as the models. These are all amazing people who I have made custom pieces of jewelry for, and I am grateful to highlight them and the work that celebrates their unique personality. Super excited about my forthcoming collaboration with incredibly talented and super sweet fashion designer Nary Manivong. Nary is the essence of how the roughest journeys yield the most breathtakingly inspired results. The Laotian-American self-taught designer rose from a tumultuous upbringing to establish his clothing label. Nary is the subject of a new documentary called Dressed, which will screen the opening night of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week NYC. Stay tuned for some video blogging about Linhardt jewelry in Nary's show.

Photos of our one-year anniversary on Thursday June 25 from 6-9pm at the shop: 156 First Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets in the East Village section of Manhattan. We launched my new collection from Colombia, as well as an exclusive sustainable line from A.D Schwarz of Mozambique - brought to us by eco-fashion model Summer Rayne Oakes. There were also amazingly yummy things to eat - delicious catering courtesy of Two Chix catering! We were absolutely blown away by the fabulous food and amazingly professional team of Tracey and Amie of Two Chix Catering for our 1-year anniversary party! They put together a fabulous menu for us and had everyone drooling for more! My personal favorite was the double fudge and fresh raspberry brownie bites, or was it the skirt steak chimichurri on crisp plantain chip? Maybe the summer crab tartlets? The mini goat cheese and asparagus frittata...

As you may recall, I’ve shared some sustainable design and development stories from Mozambique while working with Allan Schwarz. The whole team is super excited to officially be launching the a.d. schwarz line for the first time in New York with some limited quantities of handwrought sustainably-harvested wood jewelry and Sofala plates. Lisa Linhardt has been chosen as one of ten artists to be showcased on a new Sundance series entitled "The New Revolutionaries," which profiles artists who are pushing and/or re-defining the boundaries of their medium. They are re-thinking the status quo, and take an untraditional approach to their work. These video diaries will support Sundance's on-air film stunt which includes documentaries featuring revolutionaries in design and art. Both the series and the stunt are sponsored by Hyundai. Diego Binetti is just about one of the most fun fashion designers you can work with. He is uber excited about his new collection, which debuted on Sept 19th during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC on Manhattan's Pier 66. This season it was all about the sophisticated traveller, with maritime splashes of sea blue, magenta, and yellow on a solid base of sailor white. I adorned the women with huge artful cork necklaces, and lots of minimalist sterling jewelry. Here are some impressions of behind-the-scenes before the show, on a day with the most perfect weather! Its a fairly crazy scene back stage but filled with lots of adrenaline and positive energy. Binetti definitely rocked the runway and I am very grateful for the opportunity to have been chosen to show with his fabulous new collection, some of which you will see here...

Filigree is an ancient technique originating from Spain and Italy. It came to Mompox, Colombia during the Spanish colonization period when the Spanish arrived to this small Colombian town. Mompox was the main port, on the Magdalena river, where all sterling silver and gold was received from the Colombian mines. The Spanish jewelers taught the native people and created a fine legacy to their jewelry making skills of today. Filigree is made by Colombian jewelers with very rudimentary tools. The labor is slow and refined - very delicate sterling threads of different thickness are interwoven in endless circles. This jewelry is hand made using recycled sterling silver, 18k gold or 24k gold vermeil. To this very day, Mompox continues to be the "Colombian Filigree town." The above design as well as other hand-crafted filigree work is now available at the Linhardt gallery.

 
John Noble walked into my shop the other day and commissioned wedding rings for him and his wife of many years, Penny. They were an absolute pleasure to work with, and were nice enough to pass along my business card to their set stylist. So the stylist walked in today and also pulled earrings from another designer in the shop, May Chen. Congratulations May, on your television jewelry debut!
